Viewership sank for the UEFA Champions League final, but it still delivered a record audience for ESPN Deportes.
Last Saturday’s Real Madrid/Atletico Madrid UEFA Champions League final earned roughly 3.0 million viewers across FOX and ESPN Deportes, down 19% from Barcelona/Juventus last year (3.7M) and 3% from the same Madrid Derby in 2014 (3.1M), both of which aired on FOX and Fox Deportes.
Real Madrid’s win was the least-watched UEFA final since Bayern Munich/Dortmund in 2013 (2.1M).
On FOX alone, the match had a 1.0 final rating and 1.7 million viewers — down 23% in ratings and viewership from last year (1.3, 2.2M) and down a tick and 12%, respectively, from 2014 (1.1, 1.9M). As was the case overall, it was the lowest rated and least-watched UEFA final since 2013 (0.9, 1.3M).
ESPN Deportes scored 1.3 million viewers for its Spanish-language coverage, down 13% from last year (1.5M) but up 8% from 2014 (1.2M). Those telecasts, as mentioned before, aired on Fox Deportes. Though down from last year, viewership was the highest for any program in ESPN Deportes history, topping the previous high of 1.1 million for the Euro 2012 final.
