ESPN went low down under.
Saturday’s Stanford-Rice college football game from Australia earned a 0.4 rating and 653,000 viewers on ESPN, down a tick in ratings and 16% in viewership from Hawaii-Cal on a Friday night last year (0.5, 781K). It was ESPN’s least-watched Saturday FBS game since at least 2011.
The Cardinal’s blowout win overlapped with the Floyd Mayweather–Conor McGregor fight.
ESPN put up better numbers earlier in the day. Portland State-BYU scored a 0.6 and 939,000 and the Chattanooga-Jacksonville State FCS Kickoff had a 0.4 and 725,000.
