ESPN has announced Ryen Russillo‘s punishment. In other news, Russillo’s former radio partner has found a new gig, and ESPN has extended several members of its NFL broadcast team.
Russillo Suspended
- ESPN has suspended radio host Ryen Russillo until next Tuesday following his arrest last week, Sports Illustrated writer Richard Deitsch reported Monday. Russillo, who faces a misdemeanor count of criminal trespass, has a court date scheduled for September 13. [Richard Deitsch/Twitter 8.28, AP 8.24]
Kanell Finds Landing Spot
- Former ESPN college football analyst Danny Kanell will work select college football broadcasts for Fox Sports this season, Awful Announcing reported Monday. According to the report, Fox and Kanell had been in discussions on a larger role, but those stalled after the former fired executive Jamie Horowitz earlier in the summer. In addition to the Fox Sports role, Kanell will begin co-hosting a radio show on Sirius XM’s college sports channel. [Awful Announcing 8.28]
ESPN Announces NFL Extensions
- ESPN announced Monday that it has reached contract extensions with NFL hosts Wendi Nix and Dianna Russini and analysts Louis Riddick and Charles Woodson. Nix will replace Trey Wingo as the primary host of NFL Live starting in February, when Wingo begins his new role on ESPN Radio. Russini will shift from SportsCenter to focusing primarily on the NFL. Riddick will be one of two newcomers to NFL Matchup, joining Greg Cosell (last year’s analysts Ron Jaworski and Merril Hoge have not appeared on ESPN since the network’s layoffs).
