Former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer is headed back to TV.
Meyer has joined Fox Sports as a college football studio analyst, it was announced Monday. He will join a revamped Fox studio show that includes the returning Rob Stone and Matt Leinart, the Fox game analyst Brady Quinn, and newcomer Reggie Bush.
Meyer, Leinart and Stone replace Dave Wannstedt and Robert Smith on the studio show, which next season will expand to one hour.
Sporting News first reported in January that Meyer was likely headed to Fox. According to that report, Meyer had been given the option of working in the studio or on games, and he evidently chose the former.
Meyer previously served as a college football game analyst for ESPN during the 2011 season, after leaving his role as coach of the Florida Gators. By November of that year, his name was already being seriously linked to head coaching openings.
While with Ohio State, he occasionally served as a guest studio analyst for major bowl games.
Fox, it should be noted, has broadcast some of the major milestones in Meyer’s career, including both of his national championship wins at Florida and a number of Ohio State games over the past two seasons.
