Mere hours after news broke that he was stabbed and hospitalized, Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has now been arrested.
Sanchez was arrested at an Indianapolis hospital Saturday for “battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication,” all of which are misdemeanors, the Indianapolis Police Department said on social media. He remains hospitalized and has not yet been booked.
The news was the latest shocker involving the Fox NFL analyst and former QB for USC and the New York Jets. It was just hours earlier that TMZ reported that Sanchez had been stabbed and left with injuries that the gossip site said were “severe” and “critical.” Based on social media reaction, the widespread assumption was that Sanchez was the victim of a crime. But as the afternoon wore on, Indianapolis-based journalists — citing police sources — began to report that he may have been the aggressor in whatever incident took place.
As should go without saying, an arrest is far from a guarantee of wrongdoing. But it is hard to imagine that most observers saw this development coming when news of Sanchez’ hospitalization was first reported.
Sanchez is in Indianapolis on assignment for Fox Sports, as he was scheduled to call Sunday’s Raiders-Colts game alongside play-by-play voice Chris Myers and sideline reporter Kristina Pink. He will be replaced on that broadcast by Brady Quinn, according to multiple reports. Between his physical recovery and arrest, it may be some time before Sanchez is back in the broadcast booth.
