The WNBA Finals ended with one of the league’s largest audiences and delivered cable’s top sports audience of a college football Saturday.
Saturday’s Dream-Valkyries WNBA Finals Game 7 averaged 3.28 million viewers across a Nielsen-measured linear audience on USA Network and CNBC and an Adobe Analytics-measured streaming audience on Peacock, marking the largest audience on record for any WNBA playoff game — surpassing the winner-take-all Game 3 of the 1999 Liberty-Comets Finals on NBC (3.25M).
Golden State’s win delivered the largest WNBA audience ever on cable, surpassing Fever-Dream on ESPN in August (2.58M), and the fifth-largest regardless of network — trailing only Fever-Sky on NBC’s “Sunday Night Basketball” in August (3.31M), the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game on ABC (3.44M), and two games on the league’s inaugural weekend of play in 1997 (Liberty-Sparks: 5.04M; Sting-Mercury: 3.59M).
Most-watched WNBA games, all-time

Viewership increased 53% from the previous winner-take-all WNBA Finals game, Lynx-Liberty Game 5 on ESPN in 2024 (2.15M). Prior to 2024, nine-straight winner-take-all Finals games had averaged fewer than one million viewers — including just 449,000 for Sun-Mystics Game 5 on ESPN2 in 2019.
Note that out-of-home viewing was not included in Nielsen estimates until 2020 or fully accounted for until 2025, that this is only in the second year of a new Nielsen methodology integrating “Big Data” from smart TVs, set-top boxes and first party data with its traditional panel, and that Nielsen has recently tweaked its measurement to better account for co-viewing of games. It is a virtual lock that Game 3 of the 1999 title series would average more viewers under current methodology.
Game 7 was the most watched television program of the day on cable, surpassing all college football games and ESPN’s “College Gameday” (2.5M). It ranked third across all networks in its primetime window, behind Ohio State-USC on NBC (7.1M per Nielsen/Adobe) and Miami-North Carolina on ABC (4.64M).
USA Network’s hour-long postgame show averaged 1.0 million viewers, a figure that would surpass every WNBA Finals game in a 20-year span — from the deciding game of the 2003 series to the deciding game of the 2023 finals. It led into an Oregon State-Fresno State college football game at 527,000, the most-watched game of the season on the network.
If there was concern that Game 7 would underperform on cable network USA rather than broadcast network NBC, viewership surpassed the previous series-high — 2.06 million for Game 1 on NBC — by 59%. By comparison, last year’s World Series Game 7 on FOX (26.88M) increased 52% from the previous high set in Game 6 (17.68M). That is still a smaller bump than Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals, which surpassed the previous high set in Game 5 by 74% (from 9.54 to 16.6 million), and Game 7 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, which surpassed the previous high set in Game 6 by 83% (from 4.2 to 7.7 million).
The final viewership figure for Game 6 — which aired in a 12:30 PM ET window last Thursday — was 1.49 million, placing ahead of the primetime Game 5 audience of 1.43 million.
