In a rarity, swimming will be televised live on NBC Saturday morning.
The NBC broadcast network will air live coverage of Saturday’s men’s 4×100 individual medley qualifying heats, featuring Americans Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. Coverage will air during the 5:00 AM-6:00 AM hour, with NBC cutting away from originally scheduled coverage of a the men’s cycling road race.
Initially, NBC planned to air the swimming qualifying event on tape delay at 11 AM ET.
Currently, only three swimming telecasts on NBC are scheduled to air live — Saturday’s telecast, qualifying next Friday afternoon, and coverage of the women’s marathon on August 9.
