Viewers on the West Coast may get to see a potential record-setting performance live on Saturday night.
An anonymous tipster to TVNewser says NBC is “giving serious consideration” to airing coverage of swimmer Michael Phelps‘ potential eighth gold medal of the Olympics live in all time zones. The final decision “may be made late Thursday night.”
Currently, NBC airs coverage of the Olympics on tape delay in the Mountain and Pacific time zones.
The event where Phelps could surpass Mark Spitz‘ record of seven gold medals at a single Olympics is the Men’s 4×100 Medley Relay, which is scheduled to begin at 10:58 PM on the East Coast and 7:58 PM out West.
