NBC earned the best numbers in years for the Ryder Cup.
Sunday’s final day coverage of the 2012 Ryder Cup drew a 3.8 final rating and 5.5 million viewers on NBC, up 81% in ratings and 88% in viewership from 2010 (2.1, 2.924M), and up 31% and 30%, respectively, from 2008 (2.9, 4.226M).
The 3.8 rating is tied as the highest for any Ryder Cup telecast since final day coverage in 1999 (5.2).
In addition, the 3.8 is the highest for any golf telecast since the final round of the AT&T National in July (4.4), topping all four rounds of the PGA Championship on CBS/TNT, all four rounds of the British Open on ESPN, and every single FedEx Cup telecast on CBS, NBC or The Golf Channel.
Only eight golf telecasts this season drew a better rating than Sunday’s telecast.
Saturday’s Ryder Cup action drew a 3.0 final rating and 4.2 million viewers, up 67% in ratings and 63% in viewership from 2010 (1.8, 2.572M), and up 25% and 28%, respectively, from 2008 (2.4, 3.293M).
The 3.0 is tied as the best for Saturday Ryder Cup action since 2004 (3.6).
