Despite a Noon ET start time, Saturday’s Texas/Oklahoma showdown drew the second largest college football overnight of the season.
The Longhorns’ 45-35 victory over the Sooners drew a 6.3 overnight rating on ABC Saturday, marking the second best overnight of the season, behind only an 8.4 for Ohio State/USC in September.
The 6.3 overnight is the best for a Noon regular season college football game since Ohio State/Michigan drew a 6.4 in 2007. Additionally, the 6.3 overnight was the second best for any non-NFL sporting event over the weekend, behind only a 6.7 for Phillies/Dodgers Game 3 on Sunday night.
Thanks to the strong lead-in, the second game of ABC’s doubleheader drew a strong 5.2 overnight rating, up 49% from a 3.5 for comparable regional action last year.
Both ABC games drew a higher rating than the primetime LSU/Florida tilt on CBS. The Gators’ blowout victory drew a 4.2 overnight rating, down 26% from a 5.7 for the same primetime match-up last year. The early game on CBS drew a 2.7 overnight, down 39% from a 4.4 for LSU/Kentucky on the comparable week in ’07.
