- Tiger Woods helped the PGA Tour Buick Invitational to a hefty 5.6/11 overnight rating on CBS. While that rating was down from the 5.9 overnight for last year’s Buick Invitational, it was still larger than any other sports rating this weekend.
- Another week of small increases for NBA coverage on ABC; Suns/Cavs drew a 2.6 overnight (up from the 2.4 overnight for the comparable game last year), while Spurs/Lakers drew a 3.3 overnight (up from a 2.7 overnight for a comparable Heat/Rockets game last year).
- The NHL All Star Game drew a 0.7 rating, very high for Versus and very low otherwise. The rating was down 76 percent from the last All Star Game, which aired on ABC in 2004.
- In other bad news for the NHL, NBC’s regionalized coverage went head to head with the NBA and Tiger Woods. The NBA game drew nearly three times the rating of the NHL on NBC, while the final round of the PGA event was five times as high. Even NBA Sunday Countdown and the Winter X Games outdrew NBC’s NHL coverage.
