In a bizarre move, TNT will not use a play-by-play voice for Thursday’s Thunder/Warriors NBA game.
Steve Kerr, Chris Webber and Reggie Miller will make up an all-analyst broadcast team for Thunder/Warriors Thursday night, TNT announced Wednesday.
Turner Sports SVP Craig Barry explained the rationale for the move to USA Today: “Why not just have a team captain and have three guys who know the game inside and out? They are all charismatic, they are all capable of carrying a show, so why not just have them talk basketball?”
TNT’s Marv Albert will work the earlier game on Thursday night, while Kevin Harlan will have the night off.
Though unique to game coverage, an all-analyst arrangement is not unprecedented in TV sports. ESPN’s “NBA Countdown” pregame show and “Audibles” NFL studio show both consist of only analysts.
