As had been speculated for several months, there will be a new voice behind the mic for NBC’s Notre Dame coverage next season.
Dan Hicks will replace Tom Hammond as the voice of Notre Dame football on NBC, Sports Illustrated reported late Sunday. NBC is expected to officially announce the move on Monday.
Hicks had previously filled-in for Hammond on Notre Dame coverage. In addition, he recently replaced Hammond as NBC’s #2 NFL announcer, working the 2012 Pro Bowl and a Wild Card game this past January.
Despite the apparent demotion, Hammond has reportedly agreed to a multi-year contract extension with NBC to continue covering horse racing, figure skating and track & field. The extension will also be announced on Monday.
