Considering that last year’s telecast featured the Yankees/Red Sox, it should be no surprise that overnights dropped for MLB on FOX on Saturday.
Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Braves/Phillies in 37% of markets earned a 2.1 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, down 30% from coverage featuring Yankees/Red Sox last year (3.0), and down 16% from afternoon coverage featuring Yankees/Mets in 2011 (2.5).
The 2.1 overnight is the third-lowest ever for primetime baseball on broadcast TV, ahead of only coverage on June 15 (1.9) and May 25 (1.7).
More than half of the MLB telecasts on FOX this season have had a decline in overnight ratings compared to last year. Keep in mind last year was the lowest rated season ever for baseball’s “Game of the Week” on broadcast.
Also Saturday, the MLB All-Star Selection Show earned a 0.9 overnight on FOX. The show previously aired on TBS.
