It was not particularly competitive, but the annual Labor Day college football game managed to eke out an increase over last year.
Monday’s Florida State/Pittsburgh college football game drew a 3.1 overnight rating on ESPN, up 7% from Georgia Tech/Virginia Tech last year (2.9), but down 6% from Miami/Maryland in 2011 (3.3).
Though up from last year, the game was no match for Florida State’s last Labor Day appearance — a 2009 match-up with rival Miami (5.6).
Overall, FSU/Pittsburgh tied Saturday’s Alabama/Virginia Tech match-up as the second-highest rated of the weekend in the metered markets. ABC’s Georgia/Clemson game was the top draw of Week 1 (5.0).
