ESPN’s Brent Musburger is getting a demotion.
Making months of rumors official, ESPN has announced that Musburger will be the lead voice for SEC college football games on the SEC Network, leaving behind his current position as the network’s top college football voice overall.
Musburger will work alongside Jesse Palmer, who will continue to analyze Thursday night games on ESPN. Musburger will not be completely absent from ESPN; he will continue to call Big 12 basketball games for the network and will also work some college football bowl games.
ESPN did not address who will replace Musburger as the network’s top college football voice. SI.com reported earlier this year that Chris Fowler would be the top candidate if ESPN replaced Musburger, with Rece Davis also a possibility. The Big Lead also mentioned Fowler and Davis in an earlier report.
