The 2014 IndyCar Series got off to a weak start on ABC. In other news, overnight ratings were mixed for the PGA Texas Open and NBC had a slight bump for the NHL.
IndyCar Opener Low on ABC
- Sunday’s IndyCar Series opener from St. Petersburg earned a 0.6 overnight rating on ABC, down 46% from 2012 (1.1), and tied as the network’s lowest IndyCar overnight in at least the past five years. Overnights were not available for last year’s race, which aired on NBCSN.
Overnights Mixed For PGA Texas Open
- Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Texas Open earned a 2.0 overnight rating on NBC, down a tick from last year (2.1), but up 25% from 2012 (1.6). Third round coverage on Saturday drew a 1.5 overnight, up a tick from last year (1.4), and up 36% from 2012 (1.1). Last year’s Texas Open did not face competition from the NCAA Tournament.
NBC Sees Uptick For NHL
- NBC earned a 1.1 overnight rating for the Bruins/Flyers NHL regular season game Sunday afternoon, up a tick from Blackhawks/Red Wings last year (1.0), but down a tick from Flyers/Penguins in 2012 (1.2). The 1.1 is the highest overnight for an indoor NHL telecast on NBC since Bruins/Blackhawks in January (1.4).
