As is usually the case, multiple teams hit multi-year highs for Opening Day of the Major League Baseball season.
The Orioles and Angels set network records for their Opening Day games. In Baltimore, Monday’s Red Sox/Orioles opener scored a 12.3 rating on MASN and CBS affiliate WJZ — the highest since MASN began airing games in 2005.
Across the country, the Mariners/Angels opener earned a 2.91 rating on Fox Sports West, the network’s best ever for an Angels Opening Day game (dates back to 1991).
Opening Day finished just shy of a record in Detroit, where the Royals/Tigers opener earned a 14.9 rating on Fox Sports Detroit and FOX affiliate WJBK — the second-best ever for the Tigers on Opening Day. Only the 2012 opener between the Red Sox and Tigers earned a better rating (15.3).
Elsewhere, the Mets’ opener was the highest rated in six years (4.1) and the Marlins’ opener was the best in three (1.9). The Diamondbacks had their highest rated home opener since 2004 (6.0), and the Cardinals had their highest rated road opener ever (11.1).
