- NBA TV continues to increase its distribution. Last week, the NBA and DirecTV agreed to move NBA TV from the Premiere Package and Sports Pack to the Choice XTRA package, resulting in 9 million additional subscribers. The deal begins with the 2009-10 season. By the 2010-11 season, “[NBA Commissioner David] Stern expects the channel to be in about 40 million homes.”
- Earlier this week, ABC announced the cast for the new edition of The Superstars, set to air this summer. Among the sports figures participating are the Bills’ Terrell Owens, Sparks’ star Lisa Leslie, skiier Bode Miller, and former stars Jennifer Capriati, Robert Horry and Jeff Kent.
- USA Today reports that MLB Advanced Media is set to announce the creation of “what’s meant to be a online baseball newspaper” that will debut in May. The site will be “separate and largely independent” from MLB.com, and will feature columnists — including Keith Olbermann — and a “newspaper look.”
