For the second straight year, fewer viewers tuned into ESPN’s annual ESPY Awards.
The 2014 ESPY Awards earned 2.2 million viewers on ESPN Wednesday night, down 3% from last year (2.3M), down 9% from 2012 (2.4M), and the fourth-smallest audience for the event since at least 1995 (viewership prior to 1996 was not available).
Three of the five least-viewed ESPY telecasts since 1995 have taken place since the start of the decade.
Among adults 18-49, Wednesday’s telecast had a 1.1 rating — actually up a tick from last year (1.0) but down a tick from 2012 (1.2).
UPDATE 7/18: This year’s ESPY Awards was apparently simulcast on ESPN2, earning a combined 2.6 million viewers across the two networks.
