The NFL on CBS tied a 15-year high in its season debut.
The NFL singleheader window on CBS drew an 11.2 overnight rating Sunday afternoon, even with last year and up 8% from 2012 (10.4). The 11.2 is tied as the highest for the Week 1 singleheader on CBS since 1999.
CBS was the only network to avoid a decline in overnight ratings on Sunday. Even so, the 11.2 was the second-lowest of the day, ahead of only the early game on FOX (9.4).
Sunday, it should be noted noted, marked the final time that CBS will have to schedule its Week 1 games around the U.S. Open. Next season, the network will be able to air 4 PM ET games during Week 1.
