ESPN earned one of the top college football overnights of the weekend for Mississippi State’s upset win over Texas A&M. In other news, NBC’s return from an EPL hiatus was on par with previous coverage, and Univision saw big gains for recent coverage of the Liga MX season.
SEC Leads Way For ESPN
- The Texas A&M/Mississippi State college football game drew a 2.7 overnight rating on ESPN Saturday, tying Stanford/Notre Dame on NBC as the weekend’s second-highest rated game in the metered markets. Only Alabama/Mississippi on CBS (3.9) did better. ESPN also drew a 2.0 overnight for LSU/Auburn in primetime and a 1.5 for Utah’s late night upset of UCLA. (Sat. numbers from ShowBuzz Daily)
NBC’s EPL Coverage on Par With Previous Telecast
- Saturday’s Aston Villa/Manchester City English Premier League match drew a 0.7 overnight rating on NBC, even with the network’s most recent telecast two weeks earlier (West Ham/Liverpool). NBC did not air a telecast on the comparable weekend last year due to the Presidents Cup. (NBC Sports)
Liga MX Up Big on Univision
- UniMás averaged 862,000 viewers for Liga MX soccer through the end of the third quarter (September 28), up 38% from the comparable period last year. The average is slightly better than the EPL on NBC, according to a Univision press release. Univision Deportes Network averaged 259,000 for its coverage, up 66%. (Univision)
