ESPN says that a report on a lawsuit against NFL star Marvin Harrison did not violate its policy on reporting against civil suits against athletes.
An ESPN spokesman responded to a Sports Media Watch article alleging that the net violated its civil suit policy and has “different standards for different athletes,” saying those accusations could not be “further from the truth.” According to ESPN, the net’s policy on civil suits is “dependent upon different circumstances” and is “primarily for suits alleging sexual misconduct.”
ESPN says it reported on the Harrison suit because it “evolved from a previously reported story on ESPN — Harrison being questioned by police in a shooting in Philadelphia in 2008.”
