The Little League World Series was a hit for ESPN and ESPN2.
ESPN’s 21 Little League World Series telecasts averaged an 0.8 U.S. rating and 1.1 million viewers, up 60% and 54%, respectively from last year’s 0.5 and 722,000 viewers, and up 14% and 21% from a 0.7 and 918,000 viewers in ’07.
Meanwhile, ESPN2 averaged a 0.7 U.S. rating and 974,000 viewers for its LLWS coverage, up 75% and 80%, respectively, from a 0.4 and 542,000 viewers last year, and up 40% and 34% from a 0.5 and 726,000 viewers in ’07.
This marks ESPN’s most-viewed LLWS since ’03, and ESPN2’s most-viewed LLWS since ’02.
ESPN’s highest rated LLWS telecast was the August 27 U.S. Semifinal between Georgia and California, which drew a 1.6 U.S. rating and 2.6 million viewers. The game marked ESPN’s most-viewed LLWS telecast since ’02, and outdrew both MLB on FOX (2.3 mil) and ESPN Sunday Night Baseball (2.4 mil) that same week.
