After several strong weeks, overnight ratings dipped for PGA Tour coverage.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour New Orleans Classic earned a 1.8 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 10% from last year (2.0) but up a tick from 2013 (1.7). The 1.8 is the second-lowest for the final round of the event in the past five years.
The 1.8 is also the second-lowest of the season for final round PGA Tour coverage on broadcast (12 telecasts), ahead of only the Texas Open in March (1.5). All other final round telecasts have earned at least a 2.0 overnight.
The 10% decline is only the second year-over-year drop for a final round telecast in the past six weeks, joining the previously mentioned Texas Open (-25%).
On Saturday, third round action drew a 1.1 overnight — down 15% from last year (1.3), down 8% from 2013 (1.2), and the lowest since 2009 (1.0).
