The finale of the FedEx Cup drew solid numbers on NBC last week.
The final round of The Tour Championship drew a 3.0 rating and 4.5 million viewers on NBC last Sunday, up 88% in ratings from a 1.6 last year, and even with ’07. The 3.0 rating is tied as the highest for final round coverage of the event since ’00 (3.5).
Phil Mickelson won the event, while second-place finisher Tiger Woods clinched the FedEx Cup.
This marks the 8th straight PGA Tour event to have at least a 40% increase in final round ratings. 7 of those 8 events have had increases of at least 70%.
Third round coverage on Saturday drew a 2.1 rating, up 91% from last year’s 1.1.
Overall, final round coverage of the four FedEx Cup events averaged a 2.7 rating and 3.9 million viewers on CBS and NBC, up 80% in ratings from a 1.5 last year, but down 7% from a 2.9 in ’07.
