After a dip last year, overnight ratings bounced back for NASCAR’s All-Star Race. In other news, overnights dropped for IndyCar qualifying, and NBCSN scored a small audience for the companion race to The Preakness Stakes.
NASCAR All-Star Overnights Up
- The NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star Race drew a 2.1 overnight rating on Fox Sports 1 Saturday night, up 24% from last year (1.7) and up a tick from 2013 on Speed Channel (2.0). Overnights prior to 2013 were not available. The 2.1 also marks a 40% increase over rain-delayed racing from Kansas on FS1 the previous week (1.5). (via ShowBuzz Daily)
Indy 500 Qualifying Down on ABC
- Indianapolis 500 qualifying earned a 1.0 overnight rating on ABC Sunday afternoon, down 17% from last year (1.2), but the network’s highest IndyCar overnight of the young season (three telecasts). Keep in mind the telecast did not feature any actual qualifying, which was moved to later in the day due to an accident earlier in the day. Rained out coverage on Saturday drew a 0.6 overnight — down 25% from last year (0.8). (via Sports Business Daily)
Few Viewers For Preakness’ Black-Eyed Susan
- Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan horse race, the companion to The Preakness Stakes, drew 100,000 viewers on NBCSN. Last year’s viewership was unavailable. The race earned less-than-half the audience of the Kentucky Oaks two weeks earlier (275K). (via Sports TV Ratings)
