Overnight ratings inched up for the Indianapolis 500.
The IndyCar Series Indianapolis 500 earned a 4.3 overnight rating on ABC Sunday afternoon, up 5% from last year (4.1), up 13% from 2013 (3.8), and tied with 2011 as the highest overnight for the race since 2008. The race was originally reported to have a 4.2 overnight, but a Nielsen recalibration pushed the numbers up a tick.
Despite tying a seven-year high, Sunday’s 4.3 overnight is also tied as the sixth-lowest for the Indy 500 since live start-to-finish coverage began in 1986.
Indianapolis was the top market for Sunday’s telecast, earning a 12.7 rating for tape-delayed coverage. The 12.7 marks a 2% increase over last year (12.4) and is the event’s highest rating in the market since 2011 (14.5).
UPDATE 5/26: Post updated to reflect Nielsen’s recalibration of the numbers.
