- Coverage of The Presidents Cup on NBC drew a 2.5 overnight rating on Sunday, down 4% from a 2.6 in ’07, and down 19% from a 3.1 in ’05. Meanwhile, coverage on Saturday also drew a 2.5 — up 14% from a 2.2 in ’07, and even with ’05. (Sports Business Daily)
- The Red Sox led the way in the ratings among MLB teams during the 2009 season. Regular season Red Sox games averaged a 9.46 rating on NESN, down 7% from last year, but the highest local rating for any MLB team. The Red Sox were followed by the Cardinals (7.97), Phillies (7.13), Tigers (6.89) and Twins (6.25). The Nationals, despite averaging the lowest local ratings in Major League Baseball (a paltry 0.60 on MASN), had the biggest increase in ratings during the ’09 season (+67%). (Sports Business Journal)
- Kings Ransom, the first documentary in ESPN’s 30 in 30 series, drew 645,000 viewers last week opposite the Tigers/Twins AL Central tiebreaker. The documentary, which focused on Wayne Gretzky‘s trade to the Los Angeles Kings in ’88, drew more viewers than a live NHL telecast on Versus that night. (Newsday, Puck the Media)
