Delayed due to the Memorial Day holiday, final ratings for the PGA at Colonial hit a nine-year high.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Colonial Invitational earned a 1.9 final rating and 2.8 million viewers on CBS May 24, up 46% in ratings and 51% in viewership from last year (1.3, 1.8M) and up 27% in both measures from 2013 (1.5, 2.2M). The 1.9 rating is tied as the highest for final round coverage of the event since 2006 (2.0), matching 2011.
The telecast, in which Jordan Spieth finished one shot back of winner Chris Kirk, was the eighth of the past 11 PGA Tour tournaments to have an increase in final round ratings. That includes The Masters and WGC Match Play, but does not include last week’s Byron Nelson Championship — for which final numbers were not immediately available.
Third round action on May 23 earned a 1.1 and 1.5 million, up 57% in ratings and 50% in viewership from last year (0.7, 1.0M) and up 25% in both measures from 2013 (0.9, 1.2M).
