Fox Sports 1 scored its top Major League Soccer audience of the season last weekend. In other news, ESPN2 hit a near-season low for Major League Baseball coverage, and the Breeders Cup Challenge did not get a post-Belmont boost on NBCSN.
FS1 Earns Top MLS Audience of Season
- Sunday’s Orlando City/D.C. United Major League Soccer match drew 378,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1, the network’s largest audience of the season (18 telecasts). The previous high was 309,000 for Sounders/Timbers in April. Overall, the telecast ranks as the second-most watched on any English-language network this year, trailing only Orlando City/New York City F.C. on ESPN2 March 8 (539K). (via ShowBuzz Daily)
Near Season-Low For Rays/Nats on ESPN2
- The Rays/Nationals Wednesday Night Baseball game drew 255,000 viewers on ESPN2, the second-smallest Major League Baseball audience this season on the ESPN family of networks. Only Dodgers/Rockies two weeks earlier, which was delayed two hours due to rain, drew a smaller audience (233K). (via ShowBuzz Daily)
No Post-Belmont Boost Yet For Horse Racing
- The Stephen Foster and Fleur de Lis Breeders Cup Challenge horse races, the first on national TV since American Pharoah won the Triple Crown, drew 133,000 viewers on NBCSN Saturday night — down 2% from the network’s first post-Belmont telecast last year, which aired two weeks later in the calendar (136K). American Pharoah did not compete Saturday night, but did participate in a ‘victory lap’ around the track at the start of the telecast.
