The final major of the PGA Tour season got off to a better start in the metered markets.
First round coverage of the PGA Championship earned a 1.2 overnight rating on TNT Thursday night, up a third from last year (0.9), up a tick from 2013 (1.1), and the highest overnight for the opening round in five years — since a 1.3 in 2010.
The previous high over that span was the 1.1 in 2013.
Tampa-St. Petersburg was the top market for Thursday’s telecast with a 2.6 rating, followed by West Palm Beach (2.5) and Ft. Myers, FL (2.4). Louisville was the top non-Florida market (2.2), with Indianapolis rounding out the top five (2.1).
