The FedEx Cup got off to a good start on CBS last weekend.
Final round coverage of The Barclays, the first event in the PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs, drew a 2.3 final rating and 3.4 million viewers on CBS last Sunday — up 21% in ratings and 24% in viewership from last year (1.9, 2.7M). Compared to 2013, when Tiger Woods won, ratings declined by 23%.
The year-over-year increase came despite the absence of both Tiger Woods, who missed the playoffs, and Jordan Spieth — who missed the cut.
Dating back to the Tampa Bay Championship in March, 19 of the past 25 final round PGA Tour telecasts have had an increase in ratings and/or viewership. That includes majors and WGC events. 18 of those 19 telecasts have been up by double or triple digits.
Third round action the previous day drew a 1.7 and 2.4 million, up 21% and 28%, respectively, from last year (1.4, 1.9M).
