The Iowa/Iowa State rivalry delivered low numbers for FOX. In other news, ESPN’s LSU/Mississippi State game was no match for higher-profile matchups in previous years, and the Premier Boxing Champions series hit a low in its return to NBC.
Iowa/Iowa State Low on FOX
- The Iowa/Iowa State college football game drew a 1.0 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon, the lowest of the day on a broadcast network. The Hawkeyes’ win, which did not air on FOX until after the conclusion of an extra-inning baseball game, was trounced head-to-head by Georgia/Vanderbilt on CBS (1.8) and Notre Dame/Virginia on ABC (3.9). Last year’s week two game on FOX, a much-hyped Michigan State/Oregon matchup in primetime, drew a 4.0 overnight.
LSU/Mississippi State Down Big From Higher-Profile Games
- ESPN drew a 1.9 overnight rating for LSU/Mississippi State Saturday night, down 35% from Virginia Tech/Ohio State last year (2.9) and down 66% from Notre Dame/Michigan in 2013 (5.6), both of which were high-profile non-conference games in earlier timeslots. As previously noted, Oklahoma/Tennessee drew a 2.6 overnight earlier in the evening.
PBC Returns to NBC With Low
- Coverage of the Premier Boxing Champions series drew a 0.7 overnight rating on NBC Saturday afternoon, down a tick from the network’s most recent afternoon window in June (0.8). The 0.7 is the lowest for the PBC on NBC (six telecasts). [Updated to fix erroneous statistic.]
