In its second season on CBS, Thursday Night Football opened with a record overnight rating.
The Week 2 Broncos/Chiefs Thursday Night Football game drew a 14.3 overnight rating on CBS and NFL Network, up 4% from Ravens/Steelers last year (13.7) and up 117% from Jets/Patriots on NFL Network and local affiliates in 2013 (6.6). Overnights peaked at a 15.0 from 11:30 PM-Midnight ET.
The 14.3 overnight is the highest in the history of Thursday Night Football (dates back to 2006), topping the previous mark set by last year’s Ravens/Steelers game. Keep in mind Thursday night games aired on NFL Network alone until last year.
Thursday’s game could not match the Week 1 edition of Sunday Night Football on NBC, which had a 16.7 overnight. It did finish well ahead of ESPN’s Monday Night Football doubleheader, which drew overnights of 9.8 and 9.5.
