With the caveat that last year’s game put up exceptionally low numbers, overnight ratings doubled for college football on FOX.
The Arizona State/UCLA college football game drew a 1.8 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, doubling Baylor/Iowa State last year (0.9) and up 50% from Arizona/Washington in 2013 (1.2). Two of the three primetime windows on FOX this season have had an increase, with Utah/Oregon the previous week up by 11%.
The 1.8 overnight is far from impressive for college football on broadcast, especially in primetime, but it ranks a respectable third out of the six telecasts on FOX this season.
Head-to-head, Saturday’s game trailed Notre Dame/Clemson on ABC’s Saturday Night Football (4.8) and Mississippi/Florida on ESPN (2.5). It was Saturday’s lowest rated college football game on broadcast in the metered markets, falling below ABC’s Noon ET Texas/TCU blowout (2.0).
