After the Bulldogs’ blowout loss to Alabama sent them spiraling out of the top ten, overnight ratings were unsurprisingly soft for their second-straight defeat.
The Georgia/Tennessee college football game drew a 3.1 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, down 21% from Alabama/Mississippi last year (3.9) and down 14% from the same Georgia/Tennessee matchup in 2013 (3.6). Of the four CBS games this season that can be compared to last year, it was the third to have a decline in the metered markets.
Despite the decline, the Volunteers’ upset win ranked second for the weekend among college football games. Texas/Oklahoma topped the charts with a 3.8 on ABC. Head-to-head, it comfortably topped ABC’s regional window (2.2) and Navy/Notre Dame on NBC (1.9).
Just once in six weeks this season has the SEC on CBS scored the top college football overnight of the weekend. By comparison, CBS earned top honors nine times in thirteen tries last year.
