A rare all-New York NFL matchup lifted last week’s NFL singleheader on CBS.
The Week 13 NFL singleheader window, featuring Jets/Giants in 39% of markets, drew a 10.2 final rating and 17.2 million viewers on CBS last Sunday afternoon — up 6% in ratings and 10% in viewership from coverage featuring Saints/Steelers last year (9.6, 15.7M) and up 3% and 5%, respectively, from coverage featuring Rams/49ers in 2013 (9.9, 16.5M), both of which aired on FOX.
The telecast ranks third out of the six singleheader windows on CBS this season, but just 10th out of 13 with FOX telecasts included.
The last time the Giants and Jets met in the regular season, Week 16 in 2011, FOX drew an 8.0 and 13.8 million for regional coverage featuring the matchup in 72% of markets. Keep in mind that telecast aired on a Saturday to accommodate the Christmas holiday.
CBS has now posted an increase in viewership for 12 of its 22 Sunday windows telecasts this season and 17 of 30 with Thursday Night Football included. That is a better pace than FOX (9 of 21) and ESPN (6 of 14), but behind NBC (12 of 15).
