Elliott Joining Online CBS News Service
- Former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Josh Elliott, who spent the past five years with ABC News and then NBC Sports, has joined CBS News as the primary anchor of its CBSN streaming service. Elliott, who will also make appearances on CBS television, is not expected to contribute to CBS Sports. As his brief tenure with NBC Sports came to an end, there had been rumors that Elliott was considering a return to ABC. (CNN Money)
Darke Sticking With ESPN
- ESPN has reached a contract extension with soccer play-by-play voice Ian Darke, who will continue to serve as the network’s lead voice on international soccer through 2020. Darke, who has been with ESPN since 2010, was the lead voice of ESPN’s coverage of the 2011 Women’s World Cup and 2014 World Cup. (ESPN Media Zone)
Andrews Says ESPN Required Interview Before ’09 Return
- Fox Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews, who is suing Marriott Hotels for negligence after she was recorded nude at two of their hotels in 2008, alleged in recent testimony that former employer ESPN required her to do an sit-down interview after said videos were leaked to the public in 2009. According to Andrews, ESPN was not going to allow her back on its college football broadcasts unless she did an interview, and “strongly recommended” that she talk to corporate sibling ABC’s Good Morning America. She eventually sat down with Oprah Winfrey. ESPN released a statement Tuesday denying that it had been “unsupportive” of Andrews, and sources told Adweek that “there was no ultimatum.” (Adweek)
