Yahoo! to Stream NHL Games For Free
- Starting Friday, Yahoo! will begin streaming up to four live NHL games per week under an agreement with MLB Advanced Media, which runs the NHL’s digital platforms. The games will be available for free regardless of whether one has a cable subscription. Yahoo!, which last year became the first digital outlet to ever exclusively air an NFL game, will also offer on-demand broadcasts of NHL games and assorted highlights. NHL Announces Four Outdoor Games For Next Season
- The NHL has announced a four-game outdoor game slate for next season, including a pair of games over the New Year’s holiday. The Maple Leafs will host the Red Wings on New Year’s Day, but in the special Centennial Classic rather than the Winter Classic. The Winter Classic will instead air on January 2, with the Blues hosting the Blackhawks from Busch Stadium. In the Stadium Series, the Penguins will host the Flyers from Heinz Field on February 18. Finally, the Oilers and Jets will play in the Heritage Classic early in the season. (Sports Business Daily)
MLB Fort Bragg Game to Air on ESPN
- ESPN’s will televise the July 3 Braves/Marlins Major League Baseball game, which will take place from the Fort Bragg military base in North Carolina, as part of Sunday Night Baseball. According to MLB, it will be the first professional sports contest from an active military base. The game is one of two special telecasts on ESPN this season, with the network set to televise a Rays/Cubs exhibition game from Cuba on March 22. (MLB.com)
