ESPN drew record numbers for college basketball coverage during the 2009-10 regular season.
ESPN averaged a 0.9 U.S. rating and 1.4 million viewers for 131 men’s college basketball games during the 2009-10 season, flat in ratings and up 8% in viewership from last year (0.9, 1.3 mil), and the network’s most-viewed college basketball season ever.
The top game of the season was North Carolina/Texas from Cowboys Stadium in December, which drew a 2.1 U.S. rating and 2.9 million viewers.
Meanwhile, ESPN2 averaged a 0.3 U.S. rating and 482,000 viewers for its 173 games, flat in ratings and up 1% in viewership from last year (0.3, 479,000).
For perspective, college football games averaged a 1.9 U.S. rating and 2.9 million viewers on ESPN and a 1.0 and 1.5 million on ESPN2 during the 2009 season.
