The last PGA event before Tiger Woods’ return had a double-digit decline in the overnights.
Final round coverage of the Shell Houston Open drew a 2.1 overnight rating on NBC Sunday, down 22% from last year (2.7), but up 11% from 2008 (1.9).
Excluding 2004, when the conclusion of the final round was postponed to Monday, the 2.1 overnight is the third-lowest for the Shell Houston Open since ’01. For perspective, final round coverage drew a 3.3 overnight as recently as ’05.
Saturday’s third round action drew a 1.5 overnight, even with last year, and up 15% from 2008 (1.3).
