Michael Phelps was the story of the night, but the Olympic Trials again trailed four years ago.
Night four of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials earned 5.8 million viewers on NBC Wednesday night, down 7% from coverage on a Thursday night in 2012 (6.2M) and up 195% from 2008, when coverage aired on USA Network (2.0M). Ratings were not immediately available.
All four nights of the swimming trials have declined from four years ago, but Wednesday’s telecast was the first to come within a single-digit percentage. Despite comparing more favorably to 2012, viewership trailed the previous night’s 5.9 million.
Among adults 18-49, Wednesday’s telecast had a 1.2 rating — down 29% from 2012 (1.7).
