The second day of Olympic competition was not as big a draw as the first. In other news, the Cubs failed to move the needle on Sunday Night Baseball, and Fox Sports 1 posted a slight bump for Nationals/Giants last weekend.
Fewer Viewers For Second Day of Olympic Soccer
- Olympic men’s soccer coverage averaged 434,000 viewers across NBCSN and USA Network on Thursday, down 12% from women’s soccer the previous day, which included the United States’ opener (491K). Figures do not include viewership on NBC Universo, which scored 83,000. Overall, the two days of pre-Opening Ceremony competition averaged 461,000 viewers on the two networks; comparable figures in 2012 were not available.
No Cubs Bump For Sunday Night Baseball
- Mariners/Cubs scored a 1.2 final rating and 1.8 million viewers on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball last weekend, down a tick in ratings and 14% in viewership from Nationals/Mets last year (1.3, 2.0M) and down 20% and 26%, respectively, from Dodgers/Giants in 2014 (1.5, 2.3M). In other action, Yankees/Mets scored 927,000 on Monday night (-8%) while the same matchup on Wednesday drew 729,000 (-7%).
Slight Bump For Nats/Giants on FS1
- Fox Sports 1 earned a 0.4 final rating and 588,000 viewers for last Saturday’s Nationals/Giants game, flat in ratings and up 5% in viewership from Angels/Dodgers last year (0.4, 562K). FS1 also scored a 0.3 and 386,000 for Cardinals/Marlins earlier in the day and 546,000 for Cardinals/Reds on Tuesday night. Over on TBS, Sunday’s Cardinals/Marlins game earned 357,000 — down 26% from Yankees/White Sox last year (484K). Both games were full national telecasts.
