While barely anyone will be around to watch the games (ESPN/ABC has the rights to the shockingly unappealing Western Conference Finals this year), ABC is making some changes to its NBA broadcast teams for the remainder of the postseason.
Yesterday, it was announced that Jeff Van Gundy would join Mike Breen and Mark Jackson on the lead broadcast team (likely starting tomorrow night during the deciding Game 6 between the Spurs and Phoenix Suns).
Today, ESPN/ABC announced that current Orlando Magic player Grant Hill will join GMC NBA Countdown, starting this Sunday for Game 1 between the Spurs and Jazz from San Antonio. Hill will be teamed with Dan Patrick, Michael Wilbon and Jon Barry through the NBA Finals. Hill was previously a guest analyst for GMC NBA Game Time in 2005.
If ABC could find a way to coerce Shaquille O’Neal into working a few games down the stretch, there might be some legitimate mainstream hype for the network’s broadcast team that could actually bring in some extra — much needed — viewers.
