Thursday Night Football got off to a slower start in the overnights.
The Week 2 Jets/Bills Thursday Night Football game earned an 11.4 overnight rating on CBS and NFL Network, down 20% from Broncos/Chiefs last year (14.3), down 17% from Ravens/Steelers in 2014 (13.7), and the lowest rated TNF opener in the metered markets since Jets/Patriots on NFL Network alone in 2013 (6.6). Figures do not include simulcast coverage on Twitter.
The Jets’ high-scoring win, which peaked at a 12.0 from 9-10 PM ET, ranks tenth out of the 17 Thursday night games on CBS (dates back to 2014).
Of the eight NFL telecast windows this year, six have hit a multi-year low in the overnights.
Per Sports Business Daily, Buffalo led all markets with a 38.9 rating. New York City was well behind at a 15.4, no surprise given the size of the market.
