Another week, another set of multi-year lows for the PGA Tour.
Final round coverage of the BMW Championship, the penultimate event in the PGA Tour FedEx Cup, had a 1.0 final rating and 1.5 million viewers on NBC last Sunday afternoon, down 17% in ratings and 14% in viewership from last year (1.2, 1.8M) and down 17% and 11%, respectively, from 2014 (1.2, 1.7M).
Excluding rainouts, Dustin Johnson‘s win was the least-watched final round of the tournament since 2011 (1.3M). Dating back to the start of June, 12 of the past 14 final round telecasts have posted a decline in viewership — with eight of those hitting a multi-year low.
Sunday’s 1.0 rating tied the third-lowest mark for any final round this season, matching the Wyndham Championship and ahead of only the Hartford Open (0.9) and John Deere Classic (0.7). All three of those tournaments faced the Olympic Games.
On Saturday, third round action had a 0.9 and 1.2 million — down 16% in viewership from last year (1.4M) and down 31% and 38%, respectively, from 2014 (1.3, 1.9M).
