A high-scoring Alabama comeback lifted CBS to one of the highest college football ratings of the young season.
Alabama/Mississippi scored a 5.4 overnight rating on the SEC on CBS Saturday afternoon, up 100% from Auburn/LSU last year (2.7) and up 29% from Georgia/South Carolina in 2014 (4.2). The 5.4 is the highest for the SEC on CBS in week three of the season since Alabama/Texas A&M three years ago (9.0).
Alabama’s win, which peaked at a 6.7 from 6:30-7 PM ET, delivered the second-highest college football overnight of the season on any network, behind only Notre Dame/Texas on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend (7.0). Mississippi has now played in the second and third-highest rated games of the season in the metered markets, with its Labor Day loss to Florida State ranking third (5.3).
As goes without saying, the SEC on CBS was the top college football window of the weekend, finishing nearly a full point ahead of second-place FSU/Louisville on ABC (4.5).
