The NFL season has gotten off to a slow start overall, but a hot start on FOX.
The Week 3 NFL singleheader window, featuring Washington/N.Y. Giants in 31% of markets, had a 12.2 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon — up 2% from coverage featuring Falcons/Cowboys last year (11.9) and even with coverage featuring 49ers/Cardinals in 2014 (12.2).
All four NFL telecasts on FOX have posted an increase in the metered markets, compared to just two of 14 windows on the other networks.
The ballyhooed matchup between Josh Norman and Odell Beckham Jr. was not nearly as big a draw as last year, when the Week 15 singleheader — featuring Panthers/Giants in 52% of markets — had a 15.3 overnight. Keep in mind Norman’s Panthers were undefeated at that point of the season.
Entering Monday, Sunday’s 12.2 ranked fourth out of the five Week 3 NFL windows — behind the national window on CBS (13.9), Sunday Night Football on NBC (12.9) and Thursday Night Football on CBS and NFL Network (12.5).
