The 2010 AVP Tour volleyball season has come to an abrupt end.
The AVP canceled the remainder of its 2010 season on Friday after deciding it “couldn’t find enough money to finish this summer’s season.” The league had been “unsuccessful at finding new investors.”
Despite the cancellation, next week’s Manhattan Beach Open will continue as scheduled. However, the event will be “played … under the auspices of the California Beach Volleyball Association,” leaving it unclear whether ESPN/ABC — which is in the first year of a contract with the AVP — would still televise the event. ABC is scheduled to air the Women’s Final on August 22.
Other than the Manhattan Beach Open, the AVP had four other events remaining on its schedule. ESPN2 and ABC were set to air four more AVP telecasts this year — one next Sunday (the aforementioned Manhattan Beach Open), two on August 29 and one on September 19.
